Organised in close conjunction with the Munch-museet in Oslo, the exhibition « Edvard Munch. The Modern Eye » showcases a rarely shown selection of major works and offers an entirely new slant on the artist by setting up a dialogue between his pictorial oeuvre and his fascination with cutting-edge forms of artistic expression, such as photography, film and the revival of theatrical staging. Munch, often presented as a Symbolist or pre-Expressionist nineteenth century painter, actually died in 1944, the same year as Kandinsky and Mondrian, and is revealed here as a determinedly twentieth century artist, steeped in the modernity of his age.
