Présentation de l'éditeur

Rodents, generally known as agricultural pests and reservoirs of zoonoses, are also a major component of biodiversity. Following the most recent systematic revisions based on cytogenetic and molecular analyses, this book offers up-to-date information on the 66 species of rodents present in six countries of Sahelo-Sudanian Africa, namely : Mauritania, Senegal, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad. The first chapters provides a general overview : presentation of the study area, biogeography and ecology, role in human health, damages to standing and stored crops, and evolutionary systematics. Then, information on each species is detailed according to the following sections : taxonomy, description, ecology, reproduction and abundance, biometry, and distribution. Predators, parasites and pathogens are also listed. Identification keys at the family/subfamily and genus/species levels are presented and illustrated by drawings. Original photographs and a list of more than 500 references complete this book.
